Self regulating heating cables

  

  

Self regulating heating cables belong to the group of the parallel heating cables and are also known as auto limited cables or variable wattage cables. The very particularity of this technology of heating cables is that the heating core is made of plastic.

The technology of self regulating heating cables

Self regulating heating cables are composed of two parallel conducting wires whose role is to distribute the electric power (230V) on the whole length of the heating cable. A thermoplastic material which is made of a complex combination of various polymers and conducting elements (mainly carbon) is extruded evenly around the energy conductors. An initial jacket obtained by extrusion is made for the insulation of the cable.

For certain industrial applications, some complementary options can be proposed:

• tinned copper braid or stainless steel braid

• ground wire under a aluminium screen and over jacket

• different types of thermoplastic jacket

The semi conductive thermoplastic material is therefore run through by an electric current and also distributes power heat by joule effect (W/m). This power heat (or distributed energy) is proportional to the surrounding environment of the heating cable (CTP effect), thus causing an immediate and local intrinsic adaptation depending on the external temperature.

The colder the area where the heating cable is applied to, the more energy it will distribute (W/m). The warmer the area, the less energy it will distribute (self regulation phenomenon). This self regulating particularity allows you to save energy significantly.

The advantages of self regulating heating cables

The self regulating heating cables manufactured by Technitrace offer favourable aspects:

• they can be cut at the desired length directly on site and allow shunt connection and the branching of one cable on another from a single feeding point (energy running uninterrupted all along the cable).

• intrinsic safety and auto adaptation of the distributed energy in all points (self regulation) makes it possible not to use a regulating device such as a thermostat.

THE RANGE OF SELF REGULATING HEATING CABLES

Lower Temperature Maintenance self regulating heating cables CABT are mainly recommended for:

• the freeze protection of freezing water pipes, cold water pipes and polluted water pipes

• the snow clearance of roofs and gutters ( although we would rather use constant wattage heating cables)

• the freeze protection of geysers, troughs, showers and eyes cleaning.

• the temperature maintenance (up to 40°C) of hydraulic devices ( valves, floodgates, pumps, pipes, etc…)

• the temperature maintenance of hot water pipes (up to 65°/85°C).

Higher Temperature Maintenance self regulating heating cables CAHT are mainly used for:

• the temperature maintenance of pipes up to 120°C in the construction industry.
