 Description of Metal Expansion Joint:

         Metal Expansion Joint Systems have gained overwhelming worldwide acceptance for accommodating and sealing
large joint movements on bridge structures. By incorporating the results of recent research activities, each joint system is designed to provide watertight, fatigue resistant, long-term, maintenance-free performance.

Design Principles

 Fatigue Resistant
       Metal Expansion Joint assemblies are subjected to millions of high dynamic stress cycles due to passing vehicle loads. Recognizing the significance of these dynamic loads on the long-term performance of expansion joint systems, BL became
the first China company to introduce fatigue-resistant design principles to modular expansion joint assemblies. It is strongly recommended that a specification which includes fatigue design provisions be included in the contract documents.

Watertight Integrity
       Each Metal Expansion Joint System not only bridges the joint gap but also protects the structure from premature
corrosion.  Design of the strip seal sealing element is based on compression of the neoprene seal lug into the gland
recess of the centerbeam and edge beam. This mechanically-locked neoprene seal not only provides excellent watertight characteristics but also achieves high pullout resistance.

Application of Metal Expansion Joint:

        Metal Expansion Joints are used when the movements of a bridge exceed the capacity of a single gap joint. The
watertight system, which was invented by BL several decades ago, is designed on a modular basis and can be tailored to
satisfy the specific requirements of almost any structure.  

Construction programs of Metal Expansion Joint:

 (1) Set out and cut Metal Expansion Joint.

 (2) Excavate and clean the Metal Expansion Joint area.

 (3) Drill holes to locate the anchor bolts.

 (4) Place the rebar mat and mold.

 (5) Pour bottom concrete layer.

 (6) Install comb-shaped steel plate.

 (7) Pour side concrete.

 (8) Maintenance the Metal Expansion Joint.
