Tattoo Cultural Origin

1,Brief introduction of tattoo

    The earliest tattoos on actual human body could be dated back to 2000 B.C in Egypt and were present on several females. But the recent discovery of the Iceman from the area of the Italian-Austrian border, who had tattoo patterns, make it go back to around 5,200 B.C.

In fact, there are many modern practioners in Japan whose tattoos can be called real works. While, Samoa tattooists created their perfect tattoos without modern tattooing equipment. Various cultures also could be found on African tattoos.

    In many cases, tattoos as a permanent way to place protective or therapeutic symbols on the body are very popular; It is also a means to make people out into appropriate social, political or religious groups, or simple as a form of self-expression or fashion statement.

2,Development of tattoo

    Today tattoo have begun to appeal to people from every walk of life. Because of the increasing number of tattoo ink, the entering of excellent artist and the rising number of celebrities having tattoos, tattoos have become more socially acceptable.

    Since 1980s, tattooing has emerged anew in the USA as a wildly appealing cultural, artistic and social form. The weakness of the working-class tattooing make it more palatable for middle-class. Now a completely new set of meanings, with an exotic, primitive flavor,  came into being.

    As tattoos have become more socially acceptable, more people would like to scrutinize every little inking and puncture of their favorite stars. It were the British upper class who made tattoos fashionable in the late 1800s in West. Family crests and other small signets were popular on forearms.

    What is often considered a tattoo Renaissance began in the 1960s, with Western artist Sailor Jack corresponding with Japanese tattooists, and soon-to-be-tattooist Ed Hardy getting a fine art degree. As surely as the ideas of art and tattoo finally fused, so did tattoo and celebrity. 

    More often, you may find tattoos are more popular with athletes than actors. When someone has different tattoos he may transform into a different character. That is why some actors wear tattoos for specific characters. Actually, rock bands accept tattoos early. Such as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rose Tattoo and Biohazard.

    Sports Illustrated noted: “Tattoos have become the sport’s world’s most flaunted form of self-expression. Ten years ago, only boxers or wrestlers had visible tattoos; today, they are everywhere, in every sport.”

    In 1997,when it conducted a preseason survey of all 29 NBA teams, the Associated Press reported that 35.1% of all NBA players had tattoos.  Beside raising the visibility of tattoos, they also have had a major impact on the nature of the tattoo business and created a new market for high-end custom tattoo art studios.
