Application and  characteristic of sarking:

 

Sarking is a strong and moisture proof building sheet that is placed over the rafters but underneath the roof battens. Sarking may also be used to refer to the scrim and sarking construction of walls, where these sheets are used.

Wood, felt, reflective foil/metal, or polystyrene can be used to make sarking boards. Any extra layer that is insulating or reflective and is present at te roof is called sarking. Roofs become stronger and more resistant to wind uplift when shingles are nailed, in the absence of timber battens, on sarking boards.
