Bio cellulose(Bacterial Cellulose, aka BC) is a biopolymer produced by the Acetobacter xylinum bacterium. It is not a cell wall substance, but rather an exocellular secretion substance produced by the bacteria. It is cheically identical to plant cellulose, which is made of D-glucose in the from of β-1,4 glycosidic bonds .The bacterial cellulose fibers form a three dimensional network through hydrogen bonds. Unlike plant cellulose, bacterial cellulose is made of pure cellulose without lignin, hemicelluloses and other polysaccharide impurity. Bacterial cellulose contains a large number of hydroxyl groups on its surface, making it extremely hydrophilic.
