Cashmere Knowledge & Care

1 What is the cashmere?

Cashmere is from cashmere goats. It is the fine layer under the guard hair of the goats. The goats will grow a slice of cashmere to prevent in the cold winter. In late spring or early summer, the cashmere will fall off naturally and is collected by the herdsmen. Sheep, even the native sheep, does not yeild cashmere.

2 Where does cashmere yield?

The annual world cashmere yield is aroung 16000 tons of raw material equivalent to 7000 tons of dehired goatswool. The cashmere is mainly yielded in China(12000 tons), Outer Mongolia(2500 tons), Iran, Afghanstan, ect(1500 tons). China mainly yields the white for white cashmere and some brown and light grey cashmere with good length(38mm) and micron(around 15 um). Half of Chinese cashmere is produced in Inner Mongolia in which the Alshan, Erlangshan and Alpas cashmere is the best in the best. The “KVSS” dehaired goatswool is made of the above material. Outer Mongolia cashmere is mainly in brown and light grey color with good length( 36-38mm) and coarse micron(16-17 um). The cashmere in middle Asia is short(24-32mm) and coarse(17-18um).

3 What's the character of cashmere?

1) Shining, covere by a layer of fine and regular scale, the cashmere is shining.

2) Soft and slippery, there is no medulla in the cashmere and it is so fine that is soft and slippery to the skin. That is why so many persons wear the cashmere snugly.

3) Moisture absorbing or releasing well. The cashmere is seasoned with all the weather. It can absorb your sweat when your skin is sweaty or release the mositure to your skin when it is dry.

4) Light and warm, a piece of cashmere sweater is only weighed 200-250 gram. However, it can keep you warm in the cold winter.

4 How to identify the real cashmere garments?

1) By your eyes, first look the composition label. According to the stipulation of China, US, Japan, and some European countries, pure cashmere or 100% cashmere means the cashmere content is no lower than 95% or 97%; then see the goods, the cashmere is more glossy, the fibre is very fine.

2) By your hand, cashmere is soft and slippery, and it's light.

3) By inspection, the scale of cashmere is different with other fibers. Only the professional inspection bureau and the experienced staff can identify the cashmere. CCMI, an orgnization in protect the image and integrity of cashmere, is cooperating with some labs to test the cashmere. Erdos cashmere technology centre, a national cashmere study and testing institute is experienced in cashmere testing. It tests about 2500 of dehaired cashmere, i.e, 1/3 of Chinese yield.

4) The best way to find a right cashmere products is to buy the reowned brand cashmere.

We own the National Cashmete Products Engineering &Technical Research Center, CNAS accredited and CCMI recommended cashmere testing lab, the only cashmere council company of CCMI in China. We have developed 1 international cashmere standard, 14 national or inductrial standards; with more than 10 patents for invention on high-count worsted cashmere yarn, rainbow cashmere yarn, anti-static cashmere yarn, etc.
