Reusable pleural biopsy punch with obdurator. This punch has three parts. The outer part has a short trocar point, with an aperture at the side just behind the point. The mount for this part has a small knob fitted to indicate the position of the aperture. There is a helical groove in the mount.

The inner part has a close fitting, sharp edged punch at the distal end. A pin on the mount engages with the groove on the outer part. A spring on the outer mount engages with this pin to latch the punch at either end of its travel.

A blunt obdurator is supplied to eject the biopsy after the punch has been withdrawn from the trocar. The punch and trocar are matched parts and the hexagonal mounts are marked as pairs. Rotating the inner punch causes it to advance as it turns. This creates a cutting action at the tip of the punch.
