Mud motor is an advanced technology used for directional drilling of bedrock, which converts hydraulic energy of directional drilling rig into mechanical energy using a positive displacement pump. ‌

The structure of the mud motor mainly includes the following parts:

Power end: including base, frame, small gear shaft assembly, large gear shaft assembly, crankshaft assembly, crosshead assembly, and DC motor.

Hydraulic end: including hydraulic cylinder, suction valve, discharge valve, cylinder liner, piston, piston rod (plunger, packing and cylinder liner), suction pipe, suction air bag (to reduce water hammer phenomenon), discharge pipe, discharge filter assembly, discharge air bag, safety valve, cylinder head, valve cover and spray pump assembly, etc.

Working principle of mud motor

The working process of a mud pump is divided into two steps: the suction process and the discharge process

Inhalation process: Mud is sucked into the pump and enters the pump cylinder through the suction valve.

Discharge process: The mud is compressed and discharged outside the pump through the discharge valve, completing the conveying process.
