Product Description
ASTME 1354 Heat Release Scope:
This fire test application standard is used to measure the condition of materials exposed to controlled radiant heat levels with or without an external igniter.
ASTME 1354 Test Data:
This test method is used to determine the flammability, heat release rate, mass loss rate, combustion heat release, and visible smoke production of materials and products.
ASTME 1354 Data Influencing Factors:
The heat release rate is determined by measuring the oxygen consumption determined by the oxygen concentration and the flow rate of the exhaust gas stream.
The effective heat of combustion is determined by measuring the specimen mass loss rate, in combination with the state of the heat release rate.
The smoke size is measured by the obstruction of light by the combustion product stream.
ATSME 1354 Test Principle:
The specimen shall be exposed to an initial test heat flux in the range of 0-100 kW/m2. When external ignition is used, electric spark ignition shall be used. The value of the initial test heat flux and the use of external ignition shall be as specified in the relevant material or performance standard (see X1.2). The normal specimen testing orientation is horizontal, regardless of whether the end-use application is horizontal or vertical. The unit also contains provisions for testing in the vertical orientation; this is only intended for exploratory or diagnostic studies.
ATSME 1354 Standard Name:
ASTM E1354 Method of test for heat and smoke release rates for materials and products using an Oxygen Consumption Calorimeter
Significance of heat release of materials by oxygen consumption method:
This test method is mainly used to determine the heat developed or contributed to in a fire involving the test material product. It also includes determining the effective heat of combustion, mass loss rate, duration of continuous burning and smoke production. These properties are determined on small-sized samples that are representative of the intended end use.
